Choosing the right theme for a bathroom can be tough. This tired looking bathroom at Singapore Youth Flying Club (SYFC) was in dire need of a renovation. In need of a refreshed new look, we provided SYFC with a fresh and updated bathroom. However, we settled on a more neutral theme to last SYFC for years to come. This ensures that the thematic renovation does not look dated in coming years. Besides the necessary piping work, the vanity area and basins went through a complete overhaul. We also installed a Vulcan matte finish white marble look porcelain vanity.

Porcelain or Marble?
With a huge variety of options available, why should you go for porcelain?
Porcelain is a heat resistant man made stone with a consistent and uniform colour and pattern. Besides this, it is also resistant to chips, scratches and stains as it is made with a composite of different clays. Another benefit of porcelain is is it’s non porous properties. This makes it highly resistant to bacteria! It won’t remain non porous for just a few months or years but will remain non porous for as long as you use it. Say goodbye to periodic sealing as it has a guaranteed lifespan.
While marble exudes a luxe feeling, the cost can definitely leave you feeling otherwise. Marble is a 100% natural stone. Every piece of marble slab has a unique grain and colour. Despite its uniqueness, installing marble in your home has it downsides too.
Unlike porcelain, the scratch and stain resistant qualities of marble is lower than porcelain. Also as marble is porous, it will absorb moisture. To combat this issue, marble requires periodic sealing to ensure that the it stays in good condition. Furthermore, the constant cleaning and maintenance required can be quite a hassle for most homeowners. If you’re designing a family home with young kids or planning to renovate an office area with heavy foot traffic, definitely put the marble installation on hold. The upfront price of marble is more expensive and over the years, the upkeep price can be quite costly.

Urinals and Partitions
The previous urinals did not have a partition and the new installed partitions are a full glass black opaque partition. Contrary to regular plastic urinal partitions, the full glass partition gives the bathroom an elevated feeling. Also, as the urinals had cracks and were due for a replacement. We hacked the wall and replaced it with new tiles. This gave the opportunity for a completely new look for the male toilet at SYFC with its new grey tiles.

Apart from this, a cubicle in the bathroom was converted to become a shower area with an instant water heater function. All the other WC’s in the bathroom were also replaced with dual flush WCs with 2 WELS ticks. Lastly, we ended this bathroom renovation at Singapore Youth Flying Club with a chemical cleaning of the bathroom.
